IKEA Wireless Chargers Review

We often have a problem with lack of work space. The Swedish furniture giant has the solution by building wireless chargers into furniture. Their wireless charger series has the best designed products by far and are a perfect fit to any home!

The IKEA charging pads use the most popular Qi wireless standard. Sadly not all phones, such as iPhones, support it yet so you may have to add a special case or a receiver. This is perhaps the biggest draw back of wireless charging at the moment. Below is a list of products compatible at the moment

NORDMÄRKE

The NORDMÄRKE series features 2 wireless chargers: the single and triple charging pads. Also both of the products come in 2 colours: white and wood. The cover itself is made out of plastic. I personally prefer the wood colour because it actually looks like it has been made out of wood and gets darker when exposed to sun light.

Single – $28

IKEA NORDMÄRKE single pad

The single pad version is capable charging 2 devices at once: 1 wirelessly and another by the usb port. It comes with a power cord attached to it and in the box there is also an adapter. Charging the device with it is really simple. The pad is quite big and has a + sign on it. Simply place your phone right over it and you are good to go. Next to the + sign you will also notice a dim LED light. The LED light stays on during the entire charge and flashes if anything has gone wrong.

Technical specs

  • Standard: Qi
  • Dimensions: 5″ x 1″ / 13cm x 2cm
  • Max. power wireless charging: 5W / 1A
  • 1 USB port

It does take around 3 hours to fully charge your phone with the maximum 5W charging power so pay that in mind.

Triple – $65

IKEA NORDMÄRKE Triple Pad

The triple pad version is a much more interesting product and perhaps a better fit to any home. In total it can charge 4 devices at once: 3 wirelessly and 1 through USB. Charging pad design is exactly the same as on the single one with the + sign. Only difference is the outer design which is now much longer and not just a circle.

Technical specs

  • Standard: Qi
  • Dimensions: 12″ x 5″ x 1″ / 31cm x 13cm x 2cm
  • Max. power wireless charging: 3x5W / 1A
  • 1 USB port

Power wise it is exactly the same as the single pad and also takes 3 hours to fully charge a smartphone.

NORDLI & SELJE – $110 & $60

IKEA wireless furniture

Tired of having a wireless charging pad take up room on your desk? IKEA has a solution for that as well – nightstands with built-in wireless charging! This is probably what the future of chargers will be like. It works exactly the same as all the other products and even has the same power. So if you have been looking for a nightstand and like the designs then they can be a great 2 in 1 product.

Technical specs

  • Standard: Qi
  • Max. power wireless charging: 5W / 1A
  • 1 USB port

RIGGAD & VARV – $80, $70 & $120

Riggad & Varv series feature lamps with built-in chargers and they are actually my favourite. Reason for that is because most of us have a lamp on our desk and that is where we usually charge our phones while working on the computer. So why not remove the need for a seperate charging pad on your desk and save space?

ikea RIGGAD wireless charger

The RIGGAD work lamp is made exactly for that. It looks any other designer lamp with 1 exception, the base has a wireless charging pad built in. It comes in a wood colour plastic like the NORDMÄRKE series. It also has the same 5W power and has a USB port in case you wish to charge a device by that. The lamp itself has a LED light source which consumes up to 85% less energy and lasts 20 times longer than incandescent bulbs. It also costs $80.

IKEA Varv Wireless Charger

While RIGGAD was made for work desks, VARV lamps have been designed for living and bedrooms. They have a clever floor lamp with a wireless pad in the middle. So you can basically sit on your sofa, read a book while your phone is charging right next to you on there. That is the most expensive lamp in this series with a price of $120. There is also a table lamp that has the same principle as the RIGGAD desk lamp, except it doesn’t bend anywhere and it costs $70.

Technical specs

  • Standard: Qi
  • Max. power wireless charging: 5W / 1A
  • 1 USB port

Conclusion

IKEA has a great concept of what wireless chargers should look like in the future – built in our environment. Perhaps the only downside is the lack of power due to which it takes 2x longer to charge your phone that it would by USB charging.
